One of the most popular mobile game series, Temple Run, rolled out on iOS platform on 4th August 2011. On 27th March 2012, Android version of the game was also made available. Temple Run is a never ending 3D running game which was published and developed by Imangi Studios. It not only garnered numerous positive reviews but also got special media coverage. It has been highly rated by different websites like 4.3/5.0 by Microsoft etc. Since its release on the App store, the popularity of Temple Run has soared just like the stock market. It has even bypassed Zynga. Till around June 2014, the game had a billion downloads.
THE TEMPLE RUN
In Temple Run, the sole player controls Guy Dangerous. There are more substitutes to Guy Dangerous which need to be unlocked by scoring a fortune of points. Originally, the runner embarks on a journey in search of an ancient golden idol. The game depicts the setting of the Garden of Bomarzo which is fraught with demonic monkeys who aim to kill the runner. Throughout the journey, a player is expected to collect the points and save the runner from falls or monkeys. There is no end to this game and the runner never finds the golden idol.
There are three types of coins – red, golden and blue which should be collected by the runner. A golden coin earns you one credit, red coin helps you earn two credits and blue coin gets you three credits. These coins can then be utilized to get different kind of upgrades like a change in the player, life renew, speed booster etc. In 2013, there were also talks of making a Temple Run based movie. However, in the end, nothing fruitful was decided. Later in the 2014, a novel series based on Temple Run was published by Egmont Publishing. It was titled ‘Run for Your Life’. Overall, Temple Run 1 received as high as 80-83 scores out of 100 by Game Rankings and Metacritic.
Enjoy playing Temple Run 2
Temple Run 2 was launched in 2013 after the paramount success of Temple Run 1. The main reason for introducing Temple Run 2 was that the makers did not want to revamp the original game as many users were still playing and enjoying it. So they decided to launch an entirely different layout with Temple Run 2. Much of the controls remain the same in the sequel. The gameplay has been enhanced and new obstacles like mine tracks, zip lines, waterfalls, fire jets etc. have been introduced. Some additional and interesting features have also been rolled out. The three devil monkeys’ chase has been changed. In place of three, only one enlarged money (Cuchanck) has been introduced as the main antagonist. Temple Run 2 was launched with only 4 players as a substitute to Guy Dangerous. But the latest 2016 update includes 8 more players like Karma Lee, Usain Bolt, Bunny Guy, Zack Wonder, Santa Claus etc. In December 2015, a specifically designed new game environment was also introduced. The environment depicts a snow laden landscape. Well, I am just trying hard to reach that level!
Temple Run 2 has also garnered immense popularity and appreciation. This is much evident as the game received around 2 billion downloads. Just like its elder brother, Temple Run 2 has gained extremely high ratings and has managed to keep its audience hooked. The scores given by leading game critics are also exceptionally high. Game Rankings has given it a 79.93 whereas Metacritic has awarded Temple Run 2 with 79/100 which is a pretty high score but a few points less than the former sequel. Despite its commercial success, there have been mixed reviews for Temple Run 2. But reviews and rankings of critics cannot stop audience from downloading the game and playing it. Right?
